WTF the revised writing standards! Who told you that? If you want to re-write that sentence without being specific of gender, you would write:

"A person that knows that they know nothing, knows more...."

Just FYI. I see a lot of cases where people write 'he/she' or 'he or she' when they can simply, and quite correctly, write 'they'. A person who considers that a "revised writing standard" would either be a feminist or assuming the feminine form since they are female or they are making a subtle reference to the increased use of people writing 'she' instead of 'he' or 'they'.
